Page 204: Romeo Paterno [1918-1943]

Romeo was described by his brother, Michael, as a very good looking and happy boy. After completing five years of elementary school in Castelmezzano and six years of high school in Potenza, he attended law school at the University of Naples. While attending his last year at the University, he was drafted into the Italian Army where he served as an infantry Lieutenant. Romeo departed Montenegro in June of 1941 and was sent to the Russian front in June of 1942 where he was taken prisoner in December of 1942. He was first declared missing. In February 1943, Romeo Paterno was declared dead at the age of twenty-five. The International Red Cross notified the family. the grieving family remembered him as a fine young man with exceptional talent and ambition.
