Page 255 Biography of Anthony A. Paterno [1891-1959] The seventh child of Giovanni and Carolina Trivigno, Anthony lived in New York all of his life. Anthony and his brother Michael joined the Paterno family construction business with their brother-in-law, Anthony Campagna and Victor Cerabone.

Anthony married Dorothy Shaefer. Her last name is spelled “Shaefer” in Michael J. Paterno’s book and “Schaefer” in her obituary in the New York Times. Anthony [Tony] and Dorothy [Dot] Schaefer lived in an apartment when in New York City. In 1919, they lived at 800 W. 181st Street, but spent a great deal of time at their one hundred sixteen acre farm in Croton Falls, New York. They named their country home “Dottoni Farms.” The name was a composite of their first names: Dot and Tony. They renovated the original farmhouse, built a lovely fieldstone home, and created a lake. They also built a separate cottage and garages. The caretaker’s family and chauffeur used facilities on the property. Tony and Dot had no children but loved to entertain the family by hosting gatherings and parties.

Anthony lived almost two years after the death of Dorothy. His December 21, 1959 obituary in the New York Times was brief:

Paterno, Anthony A., on Dec 19, 1959, husband of the late Dorothy V., brother of Mrs. Marie Campagna, Mrs. Rose Faiella and the late Dr. Charles V., Joseph and Michael Paterno, ad Mrs. Christina [correction: Celestina] Campagna. Reposing at Frank E. Campbell, Madison Ave. at 81st St. Requiem Mass Tuesday, 10 A.M., St. Margaret’s R.C. Church, Riverdale Ave, and 262nd St., New York, New York.
