Page 12: THE CAMPAGNA FAMILY
In 1907, while Uncle Joseph Paterno was visiting in Naples, Italy, he met a townsman, Anthony Campagna, a young lawyer struggling in his profession. At that meeting Uncle Joseph asked Anthony to come to America to seek a better future, and promised to help him.
Anthony emigrated to America in 1908. Soon after, he was employed by Paterno Bros. Company. He remianed with Uncle Joseph for a few years, learning and acquiring experience and skills in all facets of the construction business. At the same time he courted our Aunt Maria, whome he later married. Eventually, with financial help from the Paternos, he started on his own. Being a very intelligent, shred and ambitious man, he successfully erected many luxury apartment buildings, prospering and leaving his mark on New York City.
Shortly after establishing his own construction company, he sent for and was joined by his younger brothers Michael and Armino. His brother Michael married our cousin Carolina Cerabone, and his brother Armino married our Aunt Cristina. Both brothers, with help from Anthony and the Paterno, also faired very well.
Anthony built a beautiful mansion for his own occupancy in Riverdale, New York. His brothers also built very fine homes in Riverdale.
