Page 243: BRADLEY MAUSOLEUM IN WOODLAWN SOLD• The New York Times • 1925 The mausoleum in Woodlawn Cemetery of the late William Bradley, subway builder and contractor, has been sold and the body of the former builder moved to a less pretentious tomb in the same cemetery, it became known yesterday. Max Shelnart, lawyer, of 305 Broadway, said yesterday that Mrs. Bradley had found it necessary to dispose of the mausoleum to Joseph Paterno, President of a large real estate firm, because of the many debts with which the estate was encumbered. He refused to disclose the price but it was reported to have been about $100,000.

Mr. Bradley, who was President of the Bergen Construction Company, which built large sections of the subways and handled other large construction jobs, had the mausoleum built in 1911 at a reported cost of $250,000. It was of Italian marble and stood on top of a hill, with a wide expanse of lawn surrounding it. Later Mr. Bradley met with business troubles as a result of several strikes and at the time of his death he was practically bankrupt.

At Mr. Paterno’s office yesterday information about the purchase was refused.
